Who We Are

The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The first Junior League was founded in 1901 by an 18-year-old New York City college student named Mary Harriman. Moved by the suffering she saw around her, Mary mobilized a group of 80 other young women to work at a settlement house in lower Manhattan. The Junior League idea of implementing changes and improving community conditions spread rapidly across the country. The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven began locally in 1980 and now has a membership of 200 volunteers who each year contributes over 4,000 hours of community service.

Many local organizations have benefited in the past from either the services of our volunteers or from dollars we have raised through special community activities.
