Women's Education/ A Mother's Voice

A Mother's Voice is a project that positively impacts the community by promoting literacy and strengthening family bonds between incarcerated mothers and their children. Though this program mothers read books that are recorded digitally, then send to their children in cd-format along with a new, gift wrapped book. These children are able to hear their mother's voices at any time. Additionally, listening to the recordings while following along in the books provided enhances early literacy skills. The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven is proud to be partnering with Dr. D. Lee Spell, Lead Detention Counselor with the Polk County Sheriff's Department and the Central County Jail on this project.

The JLGWH provides all the necessary materials i.e. new books, CD's, postage and packaging as well as volunteers to make the recordings.
